Susan Sheets is a well known and respected Texas artist, whose works have focused on rugged landscapes, livestock and wild animals native to Texas. Through her strong sense of design and her intense conviction, her paintings bring you into her life. Indeed you feel as if you are in the presence of her horses, rocks, and trees, for there is an immediate intimacy with her paintings.
Susan spends her summers in Pipe Creek, Texas, nine miles east of Bandera, the “Cowboy Capital of the World”, where she trudges around hundreds of acres of Hill Country painting en plein air. Her intimate knowledge of landscape and subject translates to her beautiful art.
Susan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Houston (1974) and a Master of Art Education from Sam Houston State University (1989). In 2003, Susan attended the Jentel Artist Residency in Sheridan Wyoming. Her works have been showcased in countless exhibitions, including exhibitions at Philmont, Cimarron, New Mexico, the Butler Longhorn Museum in League City, and the prestigious American Academy of Equine Art in Lexington, Kentucky. Susan has also been published in Ex Arte Equines III, International Equine Art Competition 2010.
